My first fan-fiction award, wowy!!!

This story, unlike my Aragorn / Éowyn story, did not come into being because I always saw Haldir and Éowyn together. Far from it. Partly it was the second movie of the trilogy (with Haldir's death) and partly a nice little chat I had with Undomiel.

After watching TTT for about the third time I read tons of stories in which Haldir survived somehow ... How could Peter Jackson let him die??? I grew an obsession for the oh-so-arrogant elf :) And for some time toyed with the idea of writing some fic with him.

What actually got me to start writing so quickly was Undomiel saying that she could never see Haldir with someone else but Celeborn (well, maybe with Legolas *grin*). So I had to simply prove my point, namely that Haldir and Éowyn would make a lovely couple as well. And after the movie I just couldn't see Éowyn marrying Faramir ... PJ completely turned his character upside down, into a second Boromir *sigh*

And this story is my final goodbye to the statement "I'll never ever write slash". Never say never :)

I think the title of the story is selfexplicable. Both Éowyn and Haldir find their true love where they least expected it. The proud Guardian of Lórien who actually resented Éowyn for her feelings for Aragorn (who belongs to his friend Legolas) and the just-as-proud Shield-maiden of Rohan, who hates all that is elvish after finding out about Aragorn and Legolas (ok, she doesn't hate Legolas, but then, who could?).

The story will at least span two (I tend to think it'll be three) instalments. I already have cooked up something quite heart-breaking for the second one. The first will ends some time after the final battle with the armies of Sauron and the destruction of the Ring. The second will be set shortly after and I think I'll end it with the Passing of the Ringbearers to Valinor.

Notes: As I finally finished the first instalment, I think I should thank a few people. First of course Undomiel for betaing it. Then Meg for helping me with the Elvish bits and pieces I added to the story to give it a little more spice *grin* and lastly, to everyone who reviewed until now (or will review in the future).
